BOSTIK 5030 ADHESIVE is used in footwear manufacture for sole attaching and will bond PVC and polyurethane (PU) molded units and soles cut from vinyl materials, to leather, PVC and fabric uppers. It can also be used for bonding halogenated is rubber soles prepared using BOSTIK 300 PRIMER. BOSTIK M 938 PRIMER is recommended for preparation of EVA soles.
Bonding Instructions
Prepare the surfaces to be bonded in accordance with BOSTIK information sheet on BOSTIK ADHESIVE FOR THE FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY (SOLE ATTACHING SYSTEMS).
Apply the adhesive to the uppers and soles by brush or appropriate machine.
Allow a minimum drying time at normal room temperatures of 15 minutes for the uppers and at least 30 minutes for the soles.
Reactivate the dried adhesive on one of the coated surfaces at a temperature of 700C to 900C by means of a high intensity heat activating unit ("flash activation"). Bring the two surfaces together under pressure of about 15 to 20 bars using a correctly adjusted sole attaching press.
Activation temperature would depend on ambient temperature, type of sole surface activator and model.
Bonding by this technique should be carried out within the tack retention / open time of the applied adhesive and this can quantity of curing agent used, substrate, room temperature and relative humidity and can be assessed by spotting the upper with sole after activation.
Bonding should be carried out within the tack retention/open time and this would vary from about 1 hour to about 24 hours depending on climatic conditions, curing agent if any used etc.
